Questioned on the sidelines of the inauguration of the April 25th commemorations in Guinea-Bissau, Ambassador Miguel Cruz Silvestre stressed that "there are technical issues involved" and said he was unaware of the current situation, but that he believes that, on the Portuguese side, the objective is for this issue to "continue to be a priority", as well as "for the Guinean authorities".

For several weeks, RTP and RDP Africa have not reached Guinean viewers in open signal, due to problems at the Nhacra broadcasting centre.

The Minister of Social Communication of Guinea-Bissau, Conceição Évora, told Lusa this week that the problem also affects Guinean state broadcasters and others that broadcast from this location.

According to her, a transmitter first malfunctioned and then a fire destroyed electrical equipment and materials, forcing the Guinean government to replace them.

The minister added that the equipment is being purchased outside Guinea-Bissau and that broadcasting could resume within "one to two weeks", depending on how long it takes to arrive.
