After the meeting, the two government leaders will sign a memorandum of understanding to create a special line of microcredit for entrepreneurs, especially young people and women.

The VII Portugal-Cabo Verde Summit is scheduled for the second half of the year, in Portugal, but still without a date, at a time of "excellence" in the Portuguese-Cape Verdean relationship, according to the office of the Portuguese Prime Minister.

Cabo Verde is considered an "example of political and democratic stability in Africa", being one of the countries with which Portugal "has a closer and more comprehensive bilateral relationship".

Portugal maintains a diversified range of cooperation actions with Cabo Verde, namely in the area of training.

On the other hand, the Portuguese territory continues to attract many young Cape Verdeans who seek better living conditions in emigration.

Portugal reinforced consular services in Praia in 2023 with an attaché dedicated exclusively to issuing work visas, in view of the increased demand: last year, the number of visas for work purposes exceeded 6,000, almost five times more than in 2022.

On the common agenda, the two countries have presented in several global forums the agreement to convert debt into a climate fund, signed in 2023, as an example to follow.

In terms of trade, Portugal is the main source of imports for the archipelago and is among the main destinations for exports.

During the afternoon, the program includes visits to a renewable energy center that operates in the vicinity of the capital and to the technology park that is being built in the city of Praia.

At the end of the day, Luís Montenegro will be received at the National Assembly by the president of the body, Austelino Correia, followed by a meeting with the Head of State, José Maria Neves, at the presidential palace.

On Sunday, the agenda includes a visit to the historical site of Cidade Velha, where there will be a meeting with representatives of the Portuguese community, which closes the program.
