Prime Minister Luís Montenegro lamented the death of journalist Pedro Cruz, a victim of lung cancer, emphasizing that he is "one of the references" of Portuguese journalism.

"Portuguese journalism loses one of its references. I extend my condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of journalist Pedro Cruz", wrote Montenegro in a publication on social media X (formerly Twitter).

It should be recalled that Pedro Cruz died this Sunday, at the age of 53, a victim of lung cancer, at the CUF Tejo hospital, in Lisbon, as confirmed to Lusa by his family.

The journalist was currently on the board of Global Media and was also the director of radio station TSF. He stood out in his work for SIC, where he worked from the end of the 1990s (1998/99) until 2021 and held the positions of coordinator of the Porto newsroom and deputy director of information for the channel.

The areas of politics and international affairs were those that he followed most closely, having been present in various situations of international conflict and tension, namely Kosovo, Syria, Albania, Haiti, Lebanon, or Ukraine.
