The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested two men, aged 29 and 30, on April 17, in the parish of Misericórdia, in Lisbon, for being suspected of committing the crimes of threats and insults to an authority agent. In a statement, the PSP explained, this Monday, that, in a first situation, the police "were alerted to a disorder between two individuals, outside the Cais do Sodré train station, causing embarrassment to the other passengers who were passing by, which led to the intervention of the same ones with the suspects". "When being questioned", one of the suspects, and "without him predicting it, went to the police "in a hostile, provocative and disrespectful attitude towards them, trying to get away immediately". "Returning, the suspect raised a glass bottle, breaking it on the ground, holding the neck part in his hand, while threatening and insulting" the agents. In a second situation, the agents "were questioned" by the other suspect "in a hostile, provocative and disrespectful manner". "The police approached him and asked him about the reason for his behavior, the suspect, besides not answering, continued with the same attitudes and behaviors, to the point of having leaned his head against a police officer's head, in an intimidating sign, being then removed, for reasons of security and prevention", it reads. "Faced with repeated hostile, provocative and threatening behavior, after legal warning, in an attempt to cease such behavior, as well as to avoid the existence of more aggressions, he resorted to the use of physical force, strictly necessary, so that the suspect was handcuffed", he adds. During this action, the man "still tried to bite" one of the agents "in the hands, actively resisting, having been given a voice of arrest". The 29-year-old detainee was notified to appear at the Lisbon District Court of Minor Criminality and the 30-year-old was present at the Local Criminal Court of the Lisbon Minor Criminality Section, with the process having been forwarded for investigation.
