Two crew members of a pleasure boat had to be rescued by the Sesimbra Lifeboat Station on Monday afternoon, April 22, due to a fire in the engine room.

According to the National Maritime Authority (AMN), the alert for the incident was given at 5:05 pm, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre. The vessel was three nautical miles, approximately 5.6 kilometres, from the port of Sesimbra, when it all happened.

Despite the scare, both were physically well, with no need for medical assistance.

For reasons of safety for navigation, the crew of the Sesimbra Lifeboat Station transported the boat in question to the port of Sesimbra.

The owner was notified and will only be able to put the boat back in the water after it has been inspected to ensure that it is seaworthy.

The Maritime Police took charge of the incident.
