False attorney pays for damages and avoids trial for fraud
A former court official of the Póvoa de Lanhoso Court who was accused of aggravated fraud, for having impersonated a prosecutor, ended up not being tried, because, in the meantime, he fully repaired the damage caused.

In a note published today on its website, the Porto Regional Public Prosecutor's Office states that the criminal liability of that defendant was extinguished by an order of 4 January 2024, due to the injured party's agreement, after full reparation of the damage.
The case has three other defendants, one of whom was also not tried, under the same conditions as the "false prosecutor".
The other two defendants were sentenced to suspended sentences for attempted corruption.
One of the defendants is a businessman linked to the nightlife industry, who had been subjected to a house arrest measure in a criminal case.
This businessman discussed the matter with another defendant, "who offered to put him in contact with a friend, who had another friend, supposedly a prosecutor, who could resolve the situation", that is, change his coercive measure.
In February 2020, the defendant who claimed to be a prosecutor and another defendant contacted the businessman and convinced him to give them 50 thousand euros, "with a view to obtaining a change in the coercive measure to which he was subject".
The defendant under house arrest paid that amount in two instalments, one of 20 thousand euros and the other of 30 thousand.
However, the coercive measure would not be changed.
One of the defendants was sentenced to three years in prison, suspended for the same period, subject to a probationary regime and, among other things, the obligation to pay the State the amount of 1,750 euros.
Another defendant was sentenced, as an accomplice, to one year and six months in prison, suspended for the same period, with the obligation to pay the State the amount of 2,000 euros.
