A year after assaulting a Nepalese man in Olhão, he will be subjected to a psychiatric examination
One of the four young men accused of attacking a Nepali immigrant in Olhão in January 2023 will undergo a psychiatric examination by the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) on May 23, at the request of the defense.

In today's short session of the trial of the case, which has been taking place since January at the Court of Faro, only the psychiatrist who accompanied the young man, one of the two in preventive detention, between 2020 and 2021, was heard.
In court, Ivo Peixoto said that the suspect presented symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity and difficulty concentrating, with an impact on his school environment, but stated that he did not identify any patterns of dangerousness in the young man.
The presiding judge of the panel of judges then informed that the same defendant will be subject to a psychiatric examination, scheduled for 23 May, a proof procedure requested by the defence that the court will try to bring forward, with the IML, so that the trial can proceed as quickly as possible.
The four defendants, who were 16 years old at the time of the aggression, at the end of January 2023, are charged with the crimes of robbery, aggravated assault and damage with violence. Two are in preventive detention.
The case became known after a video was shared on social networks, in which the immigrant appears lying on the ground, in a defensive position, trying to protect himself from aggression.
At the time, the PSP reported that the assaults and robberies were committed "taking advantage of the strength of the group, based on extreme gratuitous and spontaneous violence, especially on the part of the three young people with the greatest influence in the group".
To identify the group, the PSP heard several witnesses and viewed more than 20,000 videos, as well as hundreds of hours of images collected by video surveillance cameras installed in the city of Olhão.
The young people communicated with each other through a closed group on Instagram - to which they gave the name 8700, which corresponds to the postal code of Olhão -, and that was where they arranged the attacks.
The attack on the Nepalese immigrant in Olhão occurred on 25 January 2023, when the group stole the victim's backpack, who did not file a complaint.
In the video, the Nepalese citizen pleaded for them to stop attacking him and to at least return his documents.
