In a statement in which the Association announces its presence in Lisbon in the commemorative parade of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the 25th of April, the diplomats consider that the 1974 revolution "led Portuguese diplomacy to the 20th century", but they claim that "it is now necessary to bring it to the 21st century".
The ASDP considers that this modernization involves "providing embassies, consulates and internal services with the human and financial resources necessary to allow the objectives and ambitions attributed to Portuguese foreign policy to be fulfilled at all times".
It takes advantage of the celebration of half a century of democracy in Portugal to appeal to the political power to "value the diplomatic career, modernizing it and guaranteeing working conditions in line with current best practices, recovering its attractiveness for new generations".
In the statement, the association argues that this moment of celebration of the democratic regime should be used to "value foreign policy, giving it a "strategic sense" and ensuring that the work of diplomats really serves to "promote the interests of Portugal in a constantly and rapidly changing world order".
