Illegal car scrap operator detected in Arruda dos Vinhos
The GNR fined an auto scrap operator for illegal activity in Arruda dos Vinhos and informed the General Inspectorate of Agriculture, Sea, Environment and Territory Planning (IGAMAOT), it was announced today in a statement.

Within the scope of an environmental patrol action, the GNR military detected 17 end-of-life vehicles and car parts, engines and tires on a plot of land in that municipality in the district of Lisbon.
At the site, the GNR identified a 70-year-old man who was dismantling, repairing and maintaining vehicles.
In the inspection action, the GNR detected nine infractions due to lack of licensing, unauthorized waste management operation, failure to comply with the obligations of waste management operators to ensure the correct packaging of the same and for the improper disposal of end-of-life vehicles.
Due to the infractions, the GNR raised a contravention, with the minimum value of the fines between 2,000 euros and 20,000 euros and informed IGAMAOT.
With this type of inspection, the GNR intends to "prevent and reduce risks to human health and the environment", ensuring that waste management is carried out using processes or methods that are not likely to generate adverse effects on the environment, namely pollution of water, air, soil, affectation of fauna or flora, noise or odors or damage to any places of interest and the landscape.
