Athlete dies in Aveiro marathon after cardio-respiratory arrest
A 43-year-old athlete who was participating in the Aveiro marathon today suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest during the race, and ended up dying, a source from the Aveiro City Council told Lusa.

According to the source, the incident occurred at kilometre 33, the victim was assisted on the spot and transported still alive to the hospital where he ended up dying.
The athlete was Portuguese, residing in Greater Lisbon, he added.
The winner of the marathon was the Moroccan Mohamed Chaaboud, with a time of 02:09:19.290.
The best-ranked Portuguese athlete in this race was Carlos Costa who reached the finish line in fifth place.
The marathon brought more than 20 thousand people to Aveiro, from 91 different nationalities.
Organised by Global Sport, promoted by the Municipality of Aveiro and Tourism of Centro de Portugal and with the support of the Municipality of Ílhavo, the race was divided into four distances: the marathon, 42 kilometres, the half-marathon, 21 kilometres, the race, 10 kilometres, and the walk, 05 kilometres.
