Quinta dos Ingleses. Occupants "gave up looking for affordable housing"
The case has already crossed borders and is now news in Brazil. Two Brazilians, who live locally in tents, showed the company's document to the newspaper O Globo. An urban park and a housing development will be built on the site.

About 50 people of various nationalities have been living for several months in an improvised campsite in Quinta dos Ingleses, in Carcavelos, because they cannot afford to pay rent for a house.
About two weeks ago, the Cascais City Council authorized the company Alves Ribeiro, owner of the land, to fence off the area and notify the 'occupants' that they must leave the site by May 31st.
Today this information has crossed borders and is news in the newspaper O Globo, in Brazil. Journalist Gian Amato spoke with two Brazilian women who have been living in tents on the "noble land of Carcavelos" since they "gave up looking for a property with affordable rent" in Portugal, where, as the Brazilian website recalls, the "cost of real estate has pushed immigrants and Portuguese people to live on the streets or in makeshift situations".
To O Globo, Andréia Machado revealed that she and 30 other people are trying to "negotiate" another piece of land to move to and live in the same way they do today. In tents and caravans.
This is because, says the Brazilian, who works cleaning properties, they all refuse to rent houses again "that take 50% of the minimum wage".
According to her, the group includes elderly people who receive 250 euros in pension and "some less than that". As well as a 58-year-old Portuguese man who was evicted from the house where he had lived for 48 years and a Portuguese woman who suffers from a chronic illness and has been waiting for social housing since 2017.
"She tries to find work, but without a home and at her age, she hasn't been successful," explained Andréia.
The same is true for the Brazilian Márcia Araújo who, despite working, does not have enough money to pay rent in Lisbon.
To O Globo, the Brazilian women showed the 'eviction notice' they received from the company Alves Ribeiro. In addition to the departure date, the document explicitly states that all belongings must also be removed by May 31st.
According to SIC Notícias, the improvised campsite will give way to an urban park and the construction of a housing development with shops, services and hotels.
