On April 18, the Regulatory Authority for Social Communication (ERC) announced that it had given the 'green light' to the new NewsNow information channel, from Medialivre, which owns Correio da Manhã, among others, which will create around 58 jobs.

The new channel will share facilities, equipment and systems and operate at Medialivre's headquarters in Lisbon, and in the studios of Porto, Viseu and Portimão.

Medialivre will make a presentation of NewsNow on Friday, at the end of the day, at an event attended by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pedro Duarte, as well as the CEO of Medialivre, Luís Santana, and representatives of the three subscription television platforms in Portugal, Meo (Altice Portugal), NOS and Vodafone Portugal.

Medialivre plans to create a total of 58 new jobs, of which 26 will be in the editorial area and 32 in technical and support areas, and will create a group of commentators.

NewsNow intends to position itself "in an informative segment, to 'reinforce quality information and reference for the most qualified audiences, placing the main focus of the news grid on political and economic issues, on the great challenges of civilization, such as global warming or artificial intelligence, on international information, in particular that related to the European space (...)'", according to information contained in the ERC's decision.

Medialivre bought the titles of Cofina Media Correio da Manhã, Correio da Manhã TV (CMTV), Jornal de Negócios, Record, Sábado, TV Guia, Flash, Máxima, among others.

On October 26, Cofina's shareholders approved the sale of Cofina Media to the company's managers (MBO) and investors, including Cristiano Ronaldo.
