Upon arriving at the school, around 4:30 pm (6:30 pm in Lisbon), Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was greeted by a group of students who sang the 'Canção de Embalar' by Zeca Afonso.

Next on the itinerary is the capital's book fair, where Marcelo is expected to be received by his Cape Verdean counterpart, José Maria Neves, who invited him to participate in the commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the prisoners of the Tarrafal concentration camp, on Wednesday.

Also participating in the central ceremonies at the camp itself will be Umaro Sissoco Embaló, Head of State of Guinea-Bissau, and the Angolan Minister of Defense, João Ernesto dos Santos, representing the Angolan President, João Lourenço.

This will complete the range of four countries of origin of the political prisoners.

The visit takes place days after Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa raised the issue of colonial reparations by Portugal, to which the Cape Verdean President reacted today, saying that the issue requires serenity.

Today, the Portuguese Head of State will remain in the capital, where, after visiting the book fair and the exhibition '25 de Abril - Antes e Depois' at the Cape Verde Historical Archive, he will meet with the Portuguese community.

May 1st will be spent entirely at the former Tarrafal concentration camp, now the Museum of Resistance, with a program that includes the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, a special session with the Heads of State and a conference on the Tarrafal camp by historian Victor Barros.

In the afternoon, the presidents will take a guided tour of the camp and the day's commemorations will end with a concert featuring Mário Lúcio (Cape Verde), Teresa Salgueiro (Portugal), Paulo Flores (Angola) and Karyna Gomes (Guinea Bissau), with free admission.

On Thursday, the last day of the visit, Marcelo will be in Praia, starting the day by laying a wreath at the Amílcar Cabral Memorial.

This will be followed by meetings with his counterpart José Maria Neves, with the President of the National Assembly, Austelino Correia, and with the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Ulisses Correia e Silva.

In the afternoon, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will preside over the signing of a partnership agreement between Camões, Institute for Cooperation and Language, and Inforpress - Cape Verdean News Agency, regarding the professional training process of the media in Cape Verde, in partnership with Lusa, News Agency of Portugal.

The visit will end with a lecture on 'Democracy in Times of Crisis' at the University of Cape Verde.
