A 72-year-old German citizen was rescued by the Portuguese Navy early Wednesday morning after suffering from "respiratory problems" while on board the passenger ship 'MEIN SCHIFF 4', which was sailing about 20 nautical miles, or about 37 kilometres, northwest of Cascais.
The Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre received the alert at 1:50 am today, leading to the mobilisation of the Sea Emergency Patient Guidance Centre (CODU-MAR), "which classified the situation as an urgent medical rescue", according to a statement from the Portuguese Navy sent to newsrooms.
The action was thus coordinated "with the Cascais Harbour Master, who promptly activated the Cascais Lifeboat Station vessel, diverting it to the cruise ship".
"The vessel received the German passenger and transported her to Cascais marina, where she docked at 5:43 am," the entity said.
The woman was assisted by INEM on site and was then taken to a hospital.
