House fire in Tomar caused "very serious damage" to the structure
The fire that broke out today in a house in Tomar completely destroyed the building, with the flames causing "very serious damage" to the structure, the deputy mayor told Lusa.

"The fire started in the kitchen and the lady, 49 years old, who was in the basement, only noticed when she smelled smoke. She tried to put out the flames, but she couldn't do anything, so she called the firefighters", said to the Lusa agency the vice-president of the Tomar City Council (Santarém), Filipa Fernandes.
According to the mayor, the woman, who "was alone" at home when the fire broke out, was taken to the hospital "due to smoke inhalation", but "is not in danger of life".
Filipa Fernandes also reported that the interior of the house was "completely destroyed and uninhabitable", with the heat of the flames causing "very serious damage" to the structure of the building.
In addition to the injured woman, the house was also home to her husband, who had already left for work, and two children, students.
"We are assessing the needs, in terms of goods or accommodation, and understanding if they are going to stay with relatives or if they need a place to stay, which the municipality will make available to this family, if necessary. They cannot stay in this house, but we will not let them lack anything", said Filipa Fernandes.
In a statement to Lusa around 10:00 am, a source from the Médio Tejo Sub-regional Command of Civil Protection said that "the alert for a fire in a single-family house in Casal da Segurança, in the Union of Parishes of São João Baptista and Santa Maria Dos Olivais, in Tomar, was given at 09:05".
According to the same source, the house, located outside the center of Tomar, in the district of Santarém, was "completely engulfed in flames" and is "at risk of collapsing" due to the damage caused.
According to the information available at 1:30 pm on the portal of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, the fire entered the resolution phase at 11:50 am, but was still mobilizing 26 personnel, supported by nine vehicles.
