Braga City Council expressed its "deepest regret" over the death of one of its employees. The 64-year-old man was hit by a "runaway" bus from Transportes Urbanos de Braga (TUB) this Friday.

"Braga City Council expresses its deepest regret over the death of its employee António Manuel Gomes da Rocha, victim of an accident while he was serving the local authority", the entity wrote on the social network Facebook.

According to the note, the man began his professional career in the municipality in 1991, having passed "through the old Braga Exhibition Centre, Sports Division and, currently, held functions in the Economy and Tourism Division".

"At this moment of deep sadness and regret, the City Council extends its heartfelt condolences to all family members, friends and colleagues", he concluded.

In turn, the mayor, Ricardo Rio, pointed out that there are "few words to add to the departure of one of our most dedicated and affable employees".

"A big hug to all the family, friends and colleagues of the Economy and Tourism Division", he wrote, on the same social network.

It should be noted that the bus skidded on Avenida Central, fatally hitting the man, who was walking on the sidewalk, several sources from Civil Protection told the Lusa agency.

The vehicle crashed into two cars, knocked down an electricity pole and ended up stopping on the sidewalk, fatally hitting the pedestrian, at 11:25 am. In addition to the fatal victim, there is also a minor injury, said the Cávado Sub-Regional Command.

According to the commander of the Braga Firefighters, Nuno Osório, the minor injured is the driver, who is also receiving psychological support from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).

The scene was attended by the Firefighters and Volunteers of Braga, elements of INEM, the Municipal Services of Civil Protection of Braga and the councilman responsible for Civil Protection of Braga.
