"Trick". PCP criticizes Government's proposals for teachers and police officers

Política Paulo Raimundo

In the speech that concluded the presentation of the PCP's Commitment to the European Parliament elections, the communist leader alluded to the meetings held on Thursday with the security forces and, today, with the various teachers' unions to point out that the warnings he made in recent months were justified.

"It's not worth making promises and then, when they get into Government, looking for all the justifications so that they don't keep the promises they are making now," said Paulo Raimundo, repeating a phrase "said this January".

Considering that exactly what he said is happening, the communist leader insisted that "the last few hours have been enlightening, in a crystal clear way, about this situation".

"The current minister of the right accounts with Brussels [Joaquim Sarmento] accuses the previous minister of the right accounts with Brussels [Fernando Medina] of failing the accounts. The current minister of the right accounts with Brussels seeks justifications for not keeping the promises," pointed out the communist leader.

And he continued: "look at the inconceivable proposals put forward to the security forces yesterday [Thursday], look at this trick, today, for the teachers, who in exchange for the recognition of their service time, on a day that will come, want rights that were acquired".

"This is the manoeuvre that is underway," he stressed, alluding to the warnings he said he had made "since the beginning of the year and until the last day of the election campaign".

He then spoke about the manifesto to change justice in Portugal: "even today we met 50 personalities, with great responsibilities and diverse influences, who exercised and exercise great public and even governmental responsibilities, who came to demand changes in Justice".

"The changes are necessary, the problem is the time that has already been lost (...), better late than never, but we could have avoided reaching this point," criticized Paulo Raimundo, assuring the PCP's commitment "to improvements in Justice, so that it serves everyone".
