The Ministry of Justice (MJ) said today it is "very concerned" about the situation in which the PS Government left the area, highlighting the strikes in the sector, the lack of magistrates and judicial staff, and the poor conditions of the courts, in response to a manifesto signed by 50 personalities from various sectors in defense of a "civic shock" that ends the "worrying inertia" of political agents regarding the reform of Justice.
In a note sent at the beginning of the evening, the STRN regrets that, in this communiqué, the MJ once again forgot about the Registry sector, "that is, the 'golden goose' that finances, with its revenues, about 70% of all the functioning of the respective ministry".
"The Registry sector collects annually about 600 million euros, revenue that in its overwhelming majority has been, illegally, channeled to finance the operation of the most diverse bodies and services under the tutelage of the Ministry of Justice", it affirms, emphasizing that the minister Rita Alarcão Júdice "cannot, and should not, fail to look at the fundamental role that the Registries have in the Justice system".
The union says that the ministry should "urgently resolve the serious structural problems that the reality of everyday life has demonstrated, namely the serious and unfair problem of salary asymmetries -- which was even the subject of a recommendation to the previous Government by the Ombudsman", among others, as well as the huge deficit of Registry Conservators and Registry Officers that currently exists in the sector.
"We cannot continue to witness the bankruptcy of the State itself that occurs when Registry Offices are closed due to the lack of Registry Conservators and Registry Officers, which increases inequalities and does not contribute to territorial cohesion, with evident and notorious damages to the inland and insular territories, increasingly deserted, putting the fundamental rights of citizens at risk", argues the union structure.
For the STRN, "it is necessary to reinforce that the registry sector has a fundamental role for society".
The union emphasizes that the Registry Offices also process countless proceedings within the scope of voluntary jurisdiction, especially family and minors' law, which is why it defends "their fundamental role in the Justice System must be valued as a whole".
