Suspects in the death of an FC Porto supporter in 2022 will hear the verdict today
The seven people accused of killing a fan near the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, during the title celebrations in May 2022, will hear today the ruling of the panel of judges of the Tribunal São João Novo.

The reading of the judgment is scheduled for 2:00 pm, after in March, in the final arguments, the Public Ministry (MP) asked for the maximum sentence for three of the seven suspects in the supporter's death, highlighting the "vile and petty" nature of the attack and the lack of "a shred of remorse" from the defendants.
Having reviewed the facts that the MP considered proven, the prosecutor asked for the maximum sentence for the defendants Marco Gonçalves, known as 'Orelhas', Renato Gonçalves and Paulo Cardoso (father, son and uncle), and a sentence "very close" for Diogo Meireles.
In addition to the seven defendants accused of killing the supporter, the trial, which began on 15 February, also has four more defendants, three of whom are accused of offences against the physical integrity of a young woman and one of possession of a prohibited weapon.
According to the accusation, consulted by Lusa, since the beginning of 2022, five of the 11 defendants, three of whom are accused of qualified homicide and in preventive detention, maintained a climate of conflict with the victim motivated by aggressions between them and family members.
On 8 May 2022, around 2:00 am, during the celebrations of the national football championship title won by FC Porto, some of the defendants became involved in a heated exchange of words with the victim, next to the Estádio do Dragão, he claims.
And, adds the accusation, motivated by a desire for revenge, some of the suspects chased, tied up and assaulted the victim with the intention of killing him, attacking him with punches, kicks and using a knife with a blade of about 15 to 20 centimetres.
In this sequence, the victim, aged 26, was stabbed several times in different parts of the body and, despite being transported to the São João University Hospital Centre in Porto, he ended up dying, he says.
