Carlos Moedas, Mayor of Lisbon and former European Commissioner, highlighted Europe Day on the social network X (formerly Twitter) - which is celebrated this Thursday.
"Today we mark Europe Day. On this day, which marks the 74th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, we celebrate the European dream," the current mayor began by writing, adding that it is "a Europe of peace, unity, solidarity, science and innovation".
And he also recalled his past: "A Europe that I had the honor of serving for five years as European Commissioner. A Europe of countries united in their diversity, which always makes us greater and better. It is the Europe that I will always defend".
As the European elections approach, the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, also marked Europe Day. The Head of Government today considered that Portugal's relationship with the European community has been "gold on blue" and appealed to the Portuguese to vote on June 9th.
In a message posted on social media, Luís Montenegro said that the "European Union was a milestone of the 20th century" and that it is up to the Portuguese to "make it even more significant in the 21st century".
"I want to talk to you about the day that will be marked, exactly one month from now, June 9th, the day of the European Elections (...). Since joining in 1986, Portugal has already gained a lot from the European community and has also contributed a lot to this project. We can even say that this relationship has been gold on blue," he said.
Considering that the European project is a "project of peace, a political, economic, scientific and cultural project that unites common nations in a common nation", the Prime Minister added that "it is the responsibility in Portugal and also in Europe, of everyone, to exercise the right to choose the next deputies to the European Parliament".
O primeiro-ministro, Luís Montenegro, considerou hoje que a relação de Portugal com a comunidade europeia tem sido "ouro sobre azul" e apelou aos portugueses para que votem nas próximas europeias.

Also this morning, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa made a point of celebrating Europe Day, marking it as a celebration of the "unity, diversity and space of peace and democracy" that is the European Union.
The President of the Republic stressed that "we should look with pride at what we have achieved since the Schuman Declaration, on May 9, 1950, which laid the foundations for the construction of the European Union that we know today and that has brought us prosperity, security, social justice, solidarity, rights and freedoms, the free movement that has allowed so many thousands of young people to travel and study in various countries", can be read in a statement released on the official website of the Presidency.
No âmbito deste dia, o Presidente da República deixa um apelo a todos os cidadãos para exerceram o seu "direito de voto no próximo dia 9 de junho" ou, como alternativa, "antecipadamente, no dia 2 de junho".
