Pedro Santana Lopes, president of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa between 2011 and 2017, will have been invited by the Executive of Luís Montenegro to replace Ana Jorge at the head of the institution.
According to Nascer do Sol, which released the news this Friday, the invitation will have been made even before the dismissal of the current provider. However, the mayor of Figueira da Foz did not want to abandon the mandate before the end of it, in October 2025.
The media writes that Santana Lopes wants to erase the image of someone who does not fulfill mandates until the end, as happened previously in Figueira da Foz, in the Lisbon City Council and in Santa Casa itself - which he left before the scheduled date to found and be a candidate for the Aliança party.
The Notícias ao Minuto contacted Pedro Santana Lopes to confirm this information, but it has not yet been possible to obtain a response.
It should be noted that Ana Jorge was dismissed, on April 30, from the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, stating, later, that she felt mistreated.
She had taken office on May 2, 2023, chosen by the previous socialist government of António Costa, and inherited an institution with serious financial difficulties, after the years of the pandemic and a process of internationalization of social games, carried out by the administration of the provider Edmundo Martinho, which may have caused losses in the order of 50 million euros.
After her dismissal, the provider wrote a letter to all the workers of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, in which she accused the Government of having dismissed her in a "rude, arrogant and slanderous way" and that she was taken by surprise.
The Government has not yet announced the successor to Ana Jorge and the remaining board.
