72-year-old man arrested for assaulting ex-partner in Grândola
The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of domestic violence against his 54-year-old ex-partner and possession of a prohibited weapon in the municipality of Grândola, district of Setúbal, it was announced today.

The suspect, the PJ indicated in a statement, was arrested by elements of the Criminal Investigation Department (DIC) of Setúbal of this police.
According to the PJ, the man, who has no criminal record, is suspected of being the author of the crimes of serious bodily harm, in the context of domestic violence, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
The suspect and the victim "had a relationship for several years, but had been separated for about a month, a fact that the suspect did not accept", he added.
During the time they lived together, the PJ said, "the detainee is said to have provided the victim with monetary amounts so that she could explore a catering establishment".
"Last Wednesday, the man ended up going to meet the woman, demanding that she return the amounts he had made available to her", the police reported.
According to the PJ, the two then started "an argument, which culminated in the suspect hitting the victim with a knife, putting her life in danger".
Contacted by Lusa, a police source stressed that, after the aggression, the woman received medical assistance, but did not need hospitalization.
The detainee, added the source, has already been present for the first judicial interrogation, and the following coercive measures have been applied to him: prohibition of contact with the victim and regular appearances before the police authorities.
