In a statement, the municipality of Braga reports that the stages will be located at Rossio da Sé, Largo do Pópulo, Largo S. João do Souto, Largo de Santiago, Largo D. João Peculiar and the Ruins of the Roman Theatre.

The event, which will be in its 20th edition, will be dedicated to Nábia, an indigenous deity linked to the cult of water.

"Nábia will be the protagonist of two initiatives full of beauty and symbolism, which mark the first day of Braga Romana, on 22 May", explained the Head of the Culture Division.

Márcia Ataíde referred to an initiative with 3,000 children and to the Ascension of Nábia, a moment that will bring together several artistic disciplines, such as dance, new circus and music.

Another novelty of this year's edition is classical theatre, with several shows in the ruins of the Roman Theatre in Alto da Cividade, by the Braga Theatre Company.

Márcia Ataíde also highlighted the cycle of conferences "Tempus Fugit", which started at the beginning of May and aims to take participants to know the historical and cultural past of the city of Braga during the Roman period.

Among the novelties of this year, there is also a reference to the cooking workshops, at the Aldeamento Brácaro.

"Cooking is one of the best ways to learn about the habits and lifestyle of past populations", said the person in charge.

Through a partnership with the New Acropolis of Braga, a session will be held during Braga Romana that aims to raise awareness for mental health, through the initiative "Philosophy and Well-being: Living like a stoic".

In total, more than 160 educational activities will be promoted, such as Latin language classes, cursive writing and history, arts and crafts exhibition, visits and staged tours, classical theatres, puppet theatres, Greek-Roman mask building workshops, staging, ceramics workshops, dance workshops, Roman board games, fables, Roman games and musical instrument workshops.

The programme also includes the usual rituals such as the Founding Rite of Bracara Augusta, the Roman Baptism and the Roman Wedding and Funeral, which this year move to the Praça Municipal, to meet the needs in terms of audience.

For the mayor of Braga, Ricardo Rio, Braga Romana reinforces the city's collective identity and has an educational dimension.

"We take advantage of Braga Romana to present our heritage sites, the collection from the Roman period and the habits and customs that have taken root", he said.
