Cardinal Américo Aguiar marks International Nurses Day in Fátima
Cardinal Américo Aguiar thanked the nursing professionals in Fátima today, asking for divine protection for them, marking International Nurses Day.

In a message recorded in Cova da Iria, the bishop of Setúbal addressed "a fraternal greeting to all nurses", emphasizing that everyone still has "in memory, in the heart, the work they did in the context of the covid [pandemic], in confinement, and in that greater challenge of our lives and of all humanity".
"Our gratitude has no date and, therefore, today, on International Nurses Day, on this May 12th, I want to renew this gratitude and also welcome the new nurses who are joining this class, who are joining this noble profession, and also those who are retiring and who are having a new phase of their lives", said Américo Aguiar in the message, adding that he places in the hands of the Virgin "a special thanksgiving for each and every one".
Cardinal Américo Aguiar is one of the 17 Portuguese bishops who participate tonight in the ceremonies of the first day of the pilgrimage of May 12 and 13 to the Sanctuary of Fátima.
The official ceremonies of the pilgrimage begin at 9:30 pm, with the recitation of the rosary and the candlelight procession, followed by the celebration of the Word, at the altar of the enclosure, presided over by Cardinal Juan José Omella.
After this ceremony, there is a night of prayer vigil, which precedes the Eucharistic procession at 7:00 am on Monday, followed by the recitation of the rosary and international mass, starting at 10:00 am, ending with the traditional Farewell procession.
According to the Sanctuary of Fátima, in addition to the Spanish cardinal and the Apostolic Nuncio in Portugal, Ivo Scapolo, 18 bishops will be present at the ceremonies.
