Assisted 73-year-old kitesurfing practitioner who was in a waterhole
Man was "in an area of very strong current", on a beach in Figueira da Foz.

A 73-year-old kitesurfer had to be assisted this Sunday, when he was on a sandbank on the beach in front of the Orbitur campsite, in Figueira da Foz, Coimbra district.
The man was "without his equipment" when the SR42 vessel from the Figueira da Foz Lifeboat Station arrived at the scene, the Figueira da Foz Harbour Master's Office begins by explaining in a statement.
The same missive states that the scene was attended by "an INEM ambulance, a vehicle from the Figueira da Foz Volunteer Firefighters and another from the Figueira da Foz Firefighters, a 4x4 motorcycle with two lifeguards from the Municipality and two agents from the Figueira da Foz Maritime Police".
The alert was given by the Lisbon maritime search and rescue coordination centre at 4:58 pm. When the SR42 vessel arrived at the scene, it found that the man was "in an area of very strong current, with some surf, in shallow water", "because the safety cable" of the equipment "had snapped".
The vessel then rescued the victim, transporting him to the Figueira da Foz Marina, where he underwent a medical assessment. He ended up not needing to go to the Figueira da Foz District Hospital.
The Maritime Police took charge of the occurrence.
