Rain returns and temperatures drop. What to expect this week?

After a week marked by good weather and heat in mainland Portugal, there was a change in the weather and this week will be marked by showers and a drop in temperatures, which are below what is expected for the month of May, according to the forecast of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
According to the IPMA, in the week from May 13 to 19, the weather is "influenced by the positioning of a depression near the British Isles, which will induce a flow from the north, bringing a cooler air mass over the Iberian Peninsula".
Thus, the week "begins with the passage of a frontal system on Monday, with periods of weak precipitation expected throughout the week, with these situations occurring almost always north of the Montejunto-Estrela mountain system".
Even so, "the accumulated precipitation at the end of the week should be below the usual values for the season".
According to the IPMA website, these showers, which will fall especially in the North and Central regions, "will be snow in the highest points of Serra da Estrela" from Wednesday onwards.
As for temperatures, "the week should start with a drop in values", continuing the drop that began at the weekend. "Temperatures should fluctuate throughout the week, being below, but close to the climatological values expected for the month of May", stresses the IPMA.
The maximum temperature "should vary between 14°C and 25°C in the inland regions of the North and Centre, in the southern region it will vary between 19°C and 28°C and in the coastal areas we will have maximum temperatures between 17°C and 26°C".
As for the minimum temperature in mainland Portugal, "it should be between 4°C and 10°C in the inland regions of the North and Centre, in the South region it should be between 7°C and 11°C and in the coastal areas the values should fluctuate between 10°C and 15°C".
