Gas cylinder explosion destroys 2 cars and damages 11 houses in Vila Verde

An explosion caused "considerable damage" in the early hours of Monday in a house in Turiz, Vila Verde, also affecting other nearby houses, confirmed Notícias ao Minuto with a source from the Cávado Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command.
The same source indicated that it was not necessary to transport anyone to the hospital.
According to Jornal de Notícias, the city councilor for Civil Protection, Patrício Araújo, specified that the cause was the explosion of a gas cylinder in a garage located on the ground floor of the house.
The councilor also said that the explosion completely destroyed two cars, one that was in the garage and the other on the public road, and damaged 11 homes.
The house where the explosion occurred was left uninhabitable.
Speaking to the Lusa agency, the municipal coordinator of Civil Protection of Vila Verde explained that the residents of the house where the explosion occurred will be rehoused with relatives.
Two other houses suffered considerable damage to windows and doors, which is why the residents will also spend the night with relatives.
Notícias ao Minuto contacted the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Vila Verde to confirm this information, but it was not possible until now.
The alert was given at 02:13 am and at 09:51 am the teams were still on site assessing the situation.
On site were the Volunteer Firefighters of Vila Verde, members of the Municipal Council of Vila Verde and the National Republican Guard (GNR).
