The Government and teachers returned to the negotiating table this Monday following the recovery of service time, with the unions demanding the counting of more days in less time, until 2027.

"We hope that in the next meeting it will begin to materialize that, after this issue of recovering service time is concluded, the more than 30 proposals that S.TO.P. made to improve public schools will begin to be negotiated in a new round," said the coordinator of the Union of All Education Professionals (S.TO.P.), in statements to journalists, after the meeting with the Ministry of Education.

André Pestana guarantees that the union will maintain a "constructive attitude", however, he states that education professionals are "tired" and "fed up with waiting".

"We feel that our children and young people are being harmed by having exhausted education professionals, with very low salaries and that, in this present month of May, we continue to have more than 30 thousand students without a teacher in one or more subjects because, in fact, the devaluation has been profound and it is necessary to correct this quickly", declared the coordinator of S.TO.P..

André Pestana guarantees that, even after the meeting with the Minister of Education, there continue to be "red lines" in the negotiations, emphasizing that Fernando Alexandre "recognizes that he does not have any proposal regarding the recovery of service time, covering colleagues who are on the verge of retiring or who have already retired", which is, in the union's opinion, "deeply unfair".

In addition, there is also no "response" regarding the total reinstatement of service time "to place teachers in their proper echelon".

It should be recalled that this afternoon meetings took place at the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, in Lisbon. First, with the smaller unions (ASPL, FENEI, FEPECI, Pró-Ordem, SEPLEU, SIPE, SIPPEB, SNPL, SPLIU and Stop). Then the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) was received and, at this time, the meeting with the National Federation of Education (FNE) will take place.

After the guardianship presented its proposal on the 3rd, which provides for the phased return of the six years, six months and 23 days of frozen time at an annual average of 20%, starting in September of this year, the organizations now presented different counter-proposals.
