Porto City Council views the measures announced for AL with "good eyes"
The Vice-President of the Porto City Council, Filipe Araújo, said today that he views the Government's measures for local accommodation "positively", arguing that municipalities should be given the powers and capacity to regulate this activity.

"For us, as we have always made public, the important thing is that the local authorities have the competence and capacity to regulate", stated the vice-president during the session of the Municipal Assembly of Porto.
Questioned by the deputy Rui Sá, from the CDU, on this topic, Filipe Araújo highlighted that the executive sees "with good eyes the capacity to once again regulate" this activity in the city.
"We believe that the municipality should be given the competence to manage its territory", he added.
With the Strategy for Housing, presented on Friday by the Government, the local authorities once again have the power to decide on new local accommodation licences.
In an interview with Lusa, the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, justified the political change with the intention of "reinforcing the role of the municipalities".
Recognising that local accommodation "in some way impacts housing policies, whether they are public or private supply", the Government says it "believes in the capacity" of the municipal councils to decide.
"The municipalities will have a say in this matter", highlighted the minister, adding that the decision will have "autonomy", even if it has to be "in accordance with general legislation".
The measures related to local accommodation are, in the current Government's (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM) Strategy for Housing, those with the fastest execution (within 10 days) and also include the revocation of the expiry of the licence and the transferability of local accommodation.
