EN16 in Viseu reopened to traffic after a motorcycle accident

National Road 16 (EN16) in Mozelos, Viseu, reopened to traffic after a four-motorcycle skidding accident that caused one fatality, a 74-year-old man, a GNR source told the Lusa news agency.

According to a source from the National Republican Guard (GNR), the EN16, which connects Viseu and São Pedro do Sul, reopened to traffic around 1:00 pm, after a four-wheel motorcycle skidded and caused the road to be closed at around 11:00 am.
The accident resulted in one fatality, a 74-year-old man, who was declared dead at the scene by the emergency medical and resuscitation vehicle (VMER) team from Viseu, the acting commander of the Viseu Firefighters, Rui Nogueira, told the Lusa agency. For about two hours, the GNR reported, traffic was diverted by the Mozelos bypass, which provides access to the A24, in the municipality of Viseu. The Viseu Dão Lafões Sub-regional Command of Civil Protection said that the alert was given at 10:59 am and that 21 personnel were dispatched to the scene, supported by 10 vehicles, from the volunteer and professional firefighters of Viseu, the volunteers of Santa Cruz da Trapa, from the municipality of São Pedro do Sul, the GNR and the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).
