A Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) detained a drunken passenger last Friday after he forced a Jet2 plane to make an emergency landing in Faro, when it was bound for Fuerteventura, Spain.
The Daily Mail reports that the Portuguese authorities boarded the plane, which had come from Manchester, when it landed in Portugal.
Happy with the arrest, the other passengers applauded as the man was led off the plane, while he smiled.
When he saw that he was being filmed, the Briton leaned towards the camera and said: "Hey! I'm doing this for Manchester, for Oldham". The passenger filming him thanked the PSP. "Thank you, sirs", he said.
On Monday, Jet2 confirmed that flight LS997, which was flying from Manchester to Fuerteventura, was diverted to Faro Airport on Friday, 10 May, "so that police could remove a disruptive passenger from the aircraft".
The company added that the man had been "banned" from flying with the company "for life" and that it was considering "taking legal action against him to recover the costs of the diversion".
