New airport? "The Government has decided and this is absolutely crucial"
Lisbon City Council President reacted to the announcement of the location of the new Lisbon airport.

Carlos Moedas considered, this Wednesday, that the main message to transmit after the announcement of the new location of the Lisbon airport, is a message of gratitude.
"The Government decided and this is absolutely crucial", he stated, corroborating then what José Sócrates had already stated the previous day: in "30 days the Government decided" what "during 8 years with all the inertia" was not decided and that was "fundamental for the country's future".
"[I want to] thank you because you made the decision", highlighted the Mayor of Lisbon, addressing Luís Montenegro's executive.
Carlos Moedas recalled that he was "always on the side of this decision" since all the technical studies indicate that this is the best solution, so he considered: "[The Government] Decided and decided well on this location".
The mayor of Lisbon also congratulated the works that will be carried out at Humberto Delgado Airport. "The current airport is going through very difficult times in its operation and there is nothing worse for the environment than a congested airport, which is what has been happening", he said, recalling that in the next ten years this will continue to be the main airport in the capital.
It should be recalled that the Government approved, on Tuesday, the construction of the new airport for the Lisbon region in Alcochete, following the recommendation of the Independent Technical Commission (CTI), announced the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro. Humberto Delgado Airport will remain and undergo works to operate with more capacity while the new airport is not operational, which should happen in a decade.
The Prime Minister stated that the national interest demanded not only a decision on the future airport, but "the best decision", considering that the year of evaluation by the CTI "was essential".
The Government also decided to name the new airport after the poet Luís de Camões.
