"I commit to striving for the constant improvement of the quality of life of all citizens of Alcoutim, continuing the work that is currently underway and thus fulfilling the PS electoral program voted in the last local elections", said the new president of the Algarve's city council at the meeting where he took office, quoted in a press release from the municipality.
Paulo Paulino also assured that the local government bodies, of the municipality and the parishes, and other institutional partners can count on the new executive to "continue a posture of dialogue in order to maintain a relationship of broad collaboration and proximity".
The previous president of the city council, Osvaldo Gonçalves, who was invited to take on duties in the administration of ALGAR, a company that collects and treats waste in the region, had been in the local government for 11 years, and could not run again in the elections scheduled for autumn 2025, due to the law limiting terms of office.
At the end of April, the PSD Algarve had expressed "surprise at the decision of AMAL [Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve], led by the socialist António Miguel Pina", to appoint Osvaldo Gonçalves to that company.
At today's meeting, José Galrito also took office as councilman and councilwoman Rosa Palma assumed the vice-presidency.
