Government decided "where some hesitated, rushed and revoked"
The Prime Minister said today that the Government has "quietly resolved a decades-long impasse" over the location of the international airport, in contrast to those who "hesitated, prevaricated, rushed and revoked".

In the opening of the fortnightly debate in parliament, Luís Montenegro took stock of the first 33 days in office and, in addition to the decision on the location of the new Lisbon airport, highlighted "the reduction of IRS by 1,539 million euros compared to 2023", the beginning of negotiations with various professional sectors, benefits for those who benefit from the Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly or the presentation of a new housing strategy.
"All these decisions were and will continue to be taken without adventurism and without any pretense of creating childish and ephemeral political numbers. These adventures and these numbers characterize the populists and the demagogues and, at the end of the day, are just media folklore that does not solve the real problems of the people", he pointed out.
Specifically, regarding the future airport, he highlighted the decisions announced and approved on Tuesday regarding the location and name of the new airport, the works plan for Humberto Delgado Airport and the conclusion of the studies for the construction of a third Tagus crossing and the High-Speed rail link between Lisbon and Madrid.
"Where some hesitated, equivocated, rushed and revoked, we calmly decided a decades-long impasse", he said, in an implicit message to the PS secretary-general and former Minister of Infrastructure, Pedro Nuno Santos.
Montenegro defended that the decision was made "based on an adequate and consensual methodology, taking into account the evaluation of an Independent Technical Commission".
"We decided with strategic vision, with a vision for the future, quickly but in a well-founded and thoughtful way. This is the hallmark of this Government: consideration, decision and consequence", he said.
