Barreiro's Autarch Satisfied with Airport Highlights Political Consensus
The president of the Barreiro Municipal Council, Frederico Rosa, expressed his satisfaction today with the decision to build a new airport in the region, highlighting that the "broad political consensus" reached is crucial for the implementation of the project.

"We saw the announcement with great satisfaction. Not only the airport, but also the third Tagus River crossing and the high-speed rail, projects that are fundamental for the country and for this region", said Frederico Rosa in statements to the Lusa agency.
The socialist mayor classified the evidence of political consensus around these projects as important.
"There is a broad political consensus on these projects and I feel that this may be the time for things to move forward", he said, emphasizing that people now expect this to be more than just another announcement, that concrete steps will follow for its implementation and completion.
Frederico Rosa added that the Barreiro City Council, in the district of Setúbal, is fully available to collaborate in whatever is necessary to "be part of a solution" that everyone claims to want, which is the implementation of the investment trilogy: airport, high-speed rail and third Tagus River crossing.
"Although they are national projects, they will have a tremendous impact on the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, on the South Riverside and on Barreiro, being fundamental levers for more job creation development", he stressed.
The mayor also highlighted the importance of these projects to accelerate the expansion of the South Tagus Metro.
The Prime Minister, the Social Democrat Luís Montenegro, announced on Tuesday that the Government had approved the construction of the new airport for the Lisbon region at the Alcochete Shooting Range, under the name Aeroporto Luís de Camões, with a view to completely replacing Humberto Delgado Airport.
The Air Force Shooting Range, also known as the Alcochete Shooting Range (due to the proximity of this urban center), is mostly located in the parish of Samora Correia, in the municipality of Benavente (district of Santarém), and also has a small part in the parish of Canha, in the municipality of Montijo (district of Setúbal).
The executive also decided to mandate Infraestruturas de Portugal to complete the studies for the construction of the Third Tagus River Crossing and the Lisbon-Madrid high-speed rail link.
