In the most "muscular" phase of fighting forest fires, between July 1 and September 30, this Alentejo district will have all these resources, said the Sub-Regional Commander of Emergency and Civil Protection of Alto Alentejo, Rui Conchinha.
In comparison, in 2023, in the same period, the district of Portalegre had the same number of air resources, four, but only 74 teams, with 351 elements.
Speaking to journalists in Ponte de Sor, after the presentation of the Special Rural Fire Fighting Device (DECIR) for this year in Portalegre, Rui Conchinha explained that the device, in addition to these numbers, increases due to the "extra territory" teams that will appear on the ground.
According to the sub-regional commander, teams from the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), forest firefighters and forest firefighters from different areas will also operate, namely those that "are allocated or shared" between municipalities, as well as the brigades of intermunicipal communities.
These teams "count" for the region's data, for the "operational and response capacity", ending up "muscling up" the device a little, he said.
As for air resources, the district of Portalegre will have, in the most critical phase of fighting fires, an initial attack helicopter, two amphibious aircraft and a reconnaissance and coordination aircraft.
According to Rui Conchinha, at that time there will be 206 firefighters on the ground, divided into 42 teams, 10 elements of the Special Civil Protection Force (FEPC) and 35 operatives from the GNR - Emergency Protection and Relief Unit, divided into six teams.
The device will also have, at that stage, four teams, with 28 elements of the GNR - Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA) and a surveillance post, and two PSP teams made up of 10 operatives.
The DECIR also includes 127 operatives, distributed in 27 teams, including forest firefighters, elements of the national body of forest agents, municipal forest intervention teams and brigades of the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Alentejo (CIMAA), among others.
Also in the same period, the DECIR in the district of Portalegre will have 12 elements divided into three teams of AFOCELCA - Complementary Group of Companies for Fire Protection.
