CEPAC ensures that it delivered information about the lynching of a Nepalese boy

In a statement, CEPAC emphasizes that it has submitted all the "precise information to verify the alleged facts" to the competent entities and that it will not speak about the matter anymore, since the exposure could further harm the child's well-being.

CEPAC ensures that it delivered information about the lynching of a Nepalese boy

The case of the nine-year-old Nepalese boy, allegedly assaulted at a school in the municipality of Amadora, continues to be talked about.

After the Ministry of Education said it was unaware of the assault, after the minister responsible confirmed this lack of knowledge, and after the school in question guaranteed that it only has Nepalese students in secondary education, the association that denounced the lynching reiterates the accusations and says it has "transmitted information" to the competent entities so that the truth can be ascertained.

In a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto, the Centro Padre Alves Correia (CEPAC) begins by saying that the institution's director, Ana Mansoa, "was questioned [by Rádio Renascença] about specific cases that supported the concern expressed in relation to the increase in racist and xenophobic attitudes and behaviours and the urgency to combat hate speech, in particular against migrants".

In view of this, in a "telephone conversation, which was held in good faith", the association continues in the same note sent to Notícias ao Minuto, "the case in question was mentioned as an example, from memory, as per the article and recorded statements that were partially made public".

In the meantime, CEPAC - which belongs to the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit, a missionary congregation that works mainly in Africa - guarantees that "precise information was transmitted to the competent entities to ascertain the alleged facts" and that it is "fully available to collaborate".

The association also stresses that it is necessary to preserve "the public anonymity of the child involved and his family", since it considers that "exposure in the media will only harm their well-being".

"The Centro Padre Alves Correia will not make any further statements about the case to the media and appeals for respect for the privacy of the child and his family and other parties involved", concludes the statement.
