Ex-couple sentenced for drugging bar patrons to rob them
The defendants, who at the time of the events - between September 24, 2021 and February 17, 2023 - were companions, jointly operated various restaurants and beverage establishments in Sintra and Almada.

The Lisbon Regional Public Prosecutor's Office made public, this Thursday, that the Sintra Central Criminal Court sentenced a former couple for committing three crimes of theft, one of which was aggravated. One of the individuals was also sentenced for committing eight crimes of theft, one of which was aggravated, and five crimes of computer fraud.
In a statement, the prosecutor's office indicated that the court "sentenced two defendants to single sentences of 15 years and six months in effective prison and five years in prison, suspended in execution for the same period".
The convicts, who at the time of the events - between September 24, 2021 and February 17, 2023 - were companions, jointly operated several restaurants and beverage establishments in Sintra and Almada and "in communion of efforts and wills, seized money, bank cards, mobile phones and other goods that customers of the aforementioned establishments had in their possession".
It was proven in court that the individuals "agreed, among other procedures, to observe the codes of bank cards when customers made payments through ATMs installed in the aforementioned establishments" and then "introduced chemical substances into their drinks and/or food, so that they would fall asleep, become passive and/or submissive and lose consciousness and memory".
Then, they take advantage of the customers' condition and "take other goods and money that they had in their possession".
The first defendant also used the customers' credit cards and respective codes to make payments and withdraw money.
According to the prosecutor's office, the conviction has not yet become final.
