CSI. Decree issued eliminating children's income as a criterion
The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, today promulgated the decree-law that eliminates the income of children as a criterion for access to the Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly (CSI).

This enactment was released through a note on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic on the Internet, in which it is stated that the Head of State enacted "two government diplomas", one of which is the "diploma that changes the criteria for awarding the CSI, eliminating the relevance of children's income".
According to the same note, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also enacted today the "diploma that makes the first amendment to Decree-Law no. 72/2023, of August 23, which approves the legal regime of the land registry and establishes the National Cadastral Information System and the cadastral map".
A week ago, on May 9, the Council of Ministers approved several decree-laws that adopt measures related to the CSI, one of which is to "eliminate children's income as a criterion and exclusion factor in the allocation" of this benefit aimed at combating poverty among the elderly.
According to the communiqué of that meeting of the PSD/CDS-PP Government, the current universe of CSI beneficiaries "is around 140 thousand people" and among the approved measures is "a first, extraordinary, increase in the CSI reference value by 50 euros, to 600 euros", as of June this year.
The executive decided, on the other hand, to "reinforce to 100%, that is, to full co-payment for the acquisition by pensioners and retirees who are CSI beneficiaries of prescription drugs with co-payment", a measure that according to the communiqué "will come into force in the month following the conclusion of the consultation of the governing bodies of the autonomous regions already underway".
