The Public Security Police (PSP) warned this Thursday that thefts by deception are "a crime that has been on the rise in recent months" and left a series of tips for protecting the population.
According to the authority, this is a type of crime that mainly targets "elderly or particularly vulnerable people".
On the social network Facebook, the PSP explained that the criminals "ring the doorbell, make up a story to gain the victim's trust and enter the residence".
Therefore, the PSP advises:
- Do not open the door to strangers;
- Do not provide your personal data to strangers;
- Do not receive any orders that you have not requested;
- Do not keep large amounts of money at home;
- Do not tell anyone if you have valuable objects at home;
- Do not comment on the family's habits or routines;
- Do not be fooled by the presence of children;
- If you detect any strange movement in your building or neighbourhood, contact the local PSP immediately.
