"When ignorance or prejudice can generate hatred and fuel divisions, it becomes mandatory to emphasize the message of inclusion and non-discrimination associated with the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia", says Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

In a message published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic on the Internet, the head of state considers it important to celebrate this date, to "note the public collective commitment to a more diverse society and against discrimination of LGBTI+ people".

According to the President of the Republic, "despite the five decades that have passed since April" 1974, "this is a current appeal, preventing hate speech, violence and normalization of any type of discrimination, both in the public space, in school, at work, in health, as in the private sphere".

"On this International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, the President of the Republic reinforces the message of hope in a country with zero tolerance for any form of discrimination and violence", reads the text.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also marked this date in 2023 and 2022, with written messages in which he expressed support for the fight against discrimination that persists based on sexual orientation and gender identity, in defense of an inclusive society, without prejudice and without hatred.
