"The Board of Directors of A3ES announced today that the University of Aveiro's proposal (UA) for an Integrated Master's Degree in Medicine has been approved", says a note from the UA.

This decision comes after A3ES previously rejected the UA's application for the Integrated Master's Degree in Medicine.

According to the same note, the current proposal involves teaching at the UA and clinical tutorial guidance in three Local Health Units (ULS), namely the ULS Aveiro Region, the ULS Entre-Douro-e-Vouga and the ULS Gaia/Espinho, within the scope of the Egas Moniz Health Alliance Academic Clinical Centre.

According to the report of the External Evaluation Committee (CAE), cited by the UA, "the mission, vision and objectives of the integrated master's degree in Medicine are clearly defined and are based on a modern programme structured around a student-centred spiral curriculum".

The CAE also considers that the programme "is aligned with the intended learning outcomes and is adequate for the acquisition of the skills required for a doctor", noting that "the list of tutors (already committed) in the clinical tutorial guidance internships is impressive".

As for research, the CAE considers that "the programme is supported by evidence of multiple projects and active research activities (national and international) underway in the areas of medical and clinical sciences at the UA and the Academic Clinical Centre".

Finally, the CAE also considers that "the physical infrastructures and equipment available at the UA are adequate to support the curricular units".

The Aveiro City Council has also announced that it will support future students of this course, as part of a protocol signed with the UA.

In addition to providing municipal equipment, namely the library, with the aim of ensuring study places, with access to computers and an Internet connection, the local authority will create a bus route or adjust existing routes, which will allow teachers and students to travel between the UA and their clinical internship locations.

The cooperation protocol has a duration of 10 years, being automatically renewed for equal periods.
