The Portuguese Navy accompanied a naval force from the Russian Federation "which transited through maritime spaces under national responsibility" from Wednesday, the 15th, until this Friday, the 17th of May.

The naval force in question "was made up of two large ships", which were "used for amphibious troop landings". One of them was "a state-of-the-art corvette", which has the objective of "gathering information", and a replenishment ship, the Portuguese Navy states in a press release.

"The ships began their transit at the southern limit of the continent's Exclusive Economic Zone, off the coast of Vila Real de Santo António, on the morning of the 15th of May and crossed the northern limit, off the coast of Caminha, on the 17th of May", is explained in the note.

In the accompaniment, which lasted "more than 50 hours", the NRP Viana do Castelo was "deployed".
