Students from the movement 'End Genocide, End Fossil' blocked themselves inside one of the buildings of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences (FCSH) of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa this Saturday morning to demand an "immediate ceasefire and the end of fossil fuels by 2030".

In a statement to which Notícias ao Minuto had access, the group states that "this action arises in the context of a student survey that began in the United States and has spread to the rest of the world".

"Several schools are already occupied with the motto 'End Fossil, End Genocide'. This student movement demands that the Government defend an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and a plan to end the use of fossil fuels by 2030 in Portugal", it reads.

"We are a student movement that, like many in the past, fights against a system that is failing. In the past, student movements have claimed their future and an end to colonialism. We are doing the same", says Beatriz Xavier, spokesperson for the action. "We do it in our schools because they are also historically the spaces of struggle for the student movement and because they tell us that it is here that we must prepare for the future. That's what we're doing", she adds.

The students also opened a banner that reads "Stop the ribbons, Burn Imperialism", alluding to the burning of the ribbons ceremony that takes place today at the same faculty and to what is happening at the same time, in the Gaza Strip.

It should be noted that about 20 students from the End Fossil movement occupied the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday morning, forcing the intervention of the National Republican Guard (GNR).
