PSP makes 526 arrests and seizes 64 weapons in 6 days

The Public Security Police (PSP), in the week from May 11th to 17th, made 526 arrests throughout the national territory. According to a statement to which Notícias ao Minuto had access, 182 of the arrests stand out for road crimes, namely 92 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 90 for lack of legal driving license. 53 suspects were also arrested for drug trafficking, with more than 116,036 individual doses seized, and 42 arrests were made for property crimes. It is also worth mentioning the seizure of 64 weapons - 39 firearms and 25 white weapons - "either as a precautionary measure or following the 14 arrests for possession or trafficking of prohibited weapons", it can be read. Regarding road prevention and safety, in the mentioned time window, the PSP inspected 13,235 drivers, having registered 4045 reports for contravention. 3762 blood alcohol tests were carried out, resulting in 40 reports of contravention for driving under the influence of alcohol. 45,687 vehicles were also controlled by radar - of which 467 were speeding. 142 offenses were also registered for lack of civil liability insurance, 443 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 139 for using the mobile phone while driving and 74 for not using the seat belt. Finally, the PSP reveals that, regarding road accidents, in the same period, 1100 accidents were registered, resulting in 355 injured (15 seriously injured and 340 slightly injured) and 2 fatalities.
