On Saturday, the Centro Padre Alves Correia (CEPAC) issued a statement clarifying the details of the alleged lynching of a Nepalese child.

The case, it should be recalled, was reported by Rádio Renascença last Tuesday, and included statements from the association's executive director, Ana Mansoa. "We acknowledge that the term 'lynching', which was used, is not appropriate and emerged as a spontaneous manifestation in light of the contours of the assault, and we admit that it was a mistake to provide information about the child's nationality and age", stated the Church institution in a statement

The note also emphasizes that Ana Mansoa's statements emerged in the "context of a telephone conversation, at the initiative of the Rádio Renascença journalist" and were framed within the "request for examples that would support the concern and perception of Catholic organizations about the increase in hate speech against migrants".

The center assures, however, that the assault occurred and that its "contours were reported to the Family and Minors Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Education". "It is now up to these entities to determine what happened, in the appropriate forum, with CEPAC reiterating its full availability to collaborate", concludes the statement.

On Tuesday, Rádio Renascença reported that a 9-year-old Nepalese boy was assaulted at a school in Lisbon and that the complaint was made by the executive director of a Church institution, the Centro Padre Alves Correia, who considered that "the motivations of the other minors were xenophobic and racist".

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Education had already pointed out that the school in the municipality of Amadora, district of Lisbon, where a violent assault on a 9-year-old Nepalese child was reported, was unaware of "the alleged incident" and that the only Nepalese students at the establishment attend secondary school.
