A 23-year-old man was arrested in flagrante delicto by the Public Security Police (PSP) last Friday in Peniche, after assaulting, threatening and insulting police officers, as well as an employee of a local mini-market. The PSP explains that on that day, at 10 pm, "a police team from the Peniche Police Station quickly went to an occurrence of alleged disturbances in a commercial establishment in the city". "At the scene, the police officers noticed that a 23-year-old citizen, a repeat offender in causing disturbances and damage in Peniche, was inside the commercial space, by action of an employee after trying to steal several articles, with whom he was involved in assaults in an attempt to escape", it is read, in a statement. One of the police officers, when trying to separate the dispute, "was immediately assaulted by the suspect with a punch in the head area. After this assault, given the suspect's fury scenario, it was necessary to resort to physical force to restrain him, throwing him to the ground to proceed with his handcuffing and driving, under arrest, to the Police Station". During this action, the young man "also kicked another police officer present at the scene". "It is also noteworthy that, even handcuffed, the detainee continued to show himself extremely violent, insulting and threatening the police officers with death, extending these threats to their families", stresses the PSP. One of the police officers involved had to "receive hospital treatment, but did not need hospitalization". The employee of the mini-market who was assaulted "expressed his desire for criminal proceedings against the suspect". The detainee was released and notified to appear at the Peniche section of the Investigation and Criminal Action Department today. The process will continue its processing in the inquiry phase.
