Marcelo in Italy to debate Europe and open an exhibition on the 25th of April
The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will travel to Italy on Wednesday and Thursday to open an exhibition on the 25th of April in Rome and to participate in the 14th conference on "the State of the European Union in Florence".

The Head of State arrives in the Italian capital on Wednesday, where, at the end of the afternoon, he will participate in the opening of an exhibition on the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, co-organized by the Portuguese embassy in Italy and the Culture department of Rome together with the Camões Institute and the Ministry of Culture, entitled «L'alba che aspettava» («The dawn that I expected», an excerpt from a poem by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen).
In the evening, Marcelo will have a private dinner, still in Rome, with his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, after which he will travel to Florence, where, on Thursday, he will participate, for the second time, in the conference on the «State of the Union» promoted by the European University Institute of Florence, after having been one of the main guest speakers at the 2018 edition.
This time, the President of the Republic will participate in a «high-level conversation» with the President of Greece, Katerina Sakellaropolou, dedicated to the theme «A new era: shaping the future through European values».
The 14th conference on the State of the Union, which will take place until Friday in Florence, is being held this year just over two weeks before the European elections, which will take place in the 27 Member States between 06 and 09 June.
Before returning to Lisbon, on Thursday afternoon, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will still meet with the Portuguese academic community of the European University Institute.
