Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was elected President of the Republic of Portugal, for the first time, eight years ago. However, the controversies in which he has been involved in recent times, such as the case of the Portuguese-Brazilian twins or the need for reparations for the former colonies, seem to have affected the President's image. According to a TVI/CNN Portugal poll, the majority of respondents classified Marcelo's performance as "reasonable" or "bad".

44% of respondents rated Marcelo's performance as reasonable. The poll indicates that 30% of respondents gave the President a negative rating, with 17% classifying the head of state's performance as bad and 13% as very bad.

Satisfied with Marcelo are 5% of respondents who gave the President a "very good" rating and 20% who rated his performance as good.

Regarding Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa's recent statements on colonialism and the need for reparations for the former colonies, 82% of respondents said they were aware of the Portuguese President's opinion. Only 18% of people responded that they were not aware of the statements made by the head of state.

Regarding reparations for the former colonies, as advocated by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, 74% of respondents are against and 18% agree.

Marcelo also stated, on the same occasion, that António Costa is slow because he is oriental and that the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, has rural behavior. The majority of respondents (53%) considered the statements to be inappropriate, while 32% said they were totally disrespectful. 13% of respondents considered Marcelo's statements to be spontaneous.
