The Public Security Police (PSP) seized 6,182 rounds of ammunition at a shooting range during a nationwide police operation that took place between May 16 and 19.
In a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto this Tuesday, the authorities revealed that the ammunition is class D and was seized on suspicion of trafficking. The owner was made an accused.
In addition to this seizure, during the police operation, 10 contravention reports were also drawn up and two firearms were seized for being stored outside the licensed premises.
Among the various infractions detected during the operation, the PSP highlights the general violation of the rules of conduct, the lack of nominal registration of the shooters who frequent the facilities, the weapons used and the number of shots fired, as well as the absence of isolation or protection of the grounds, which includes the collection of the projectiles resulting from the shots.
The PSP also found that, in the places where they were collected, the projectiles were not delivered to specialized companies that ensure transport and recycling.
In some cases, the grounds were not cleaned semi-annually, as required by law.
With this operation, the PSP intended to verify compliance with the technical and safety conditions of the facilities and surrounding areas, in the complexes, quarries and shooting ranges, as well as the rules of conduct and safety by recreational shooters to avoid accidents.
